Providing consultation and training to private, public, and corporate agencies that want to:

  • improve their clinical service delivery practices and performance in foster care, residential/group home, mental health and substance use/abuse
  • more effectively recruit and retain staff through success focused non-punitive supervision. 
  • integrate trauma recovery into practice with staff and clients/students.
  • learn how to effectively work with challenging clients, children, and families
  • institutionalizing evidence-based practices
  • make Quality Improvement a simple integrated process
  • collecting the “right” data for effective decision making

  • Provided consultation and training to public and private child welfare organizations throughout the United States and internationally related to clinical/ program and organizational improvement

 

1991 To 1999   Regional Director, Foster Care and Family Service, Moss Beach Homes for Children, Daly City, CA


  • Expanded services from one office with staff of 3 serving 45 children to six offices with staff of 55 serving over 500 youth with an annual budget of $ 13.5 million


  • Coordinated agency-wide accreditation activities for foster care, therapeutic foster care, residential care, adoptions, home-based services and school-based community mental health

                                         

1995 - 1997   Project Director, Sunset Beacon (concurrent responsibility)

  • Director of the Sunset Family-Counseling Clinic (Medi-Cal Mental Health Services) 
  • Wrote and directed grants and fundraising in excess of $ 500,000 

 

1989 - 1991   Supervisor of Excel Group Homes 

  • Hired, trained and supervised staff of 15 in three community-based group homes serving 18 adolescents

 

1987 – 1989   Senior Chemical Dependency Therapist, Garden Sullivan Recovery Center, San Francisco, CA


  • Supervised and provided case management, individual and group therapy for hospitalized dual diagnosed chemically dependent clients.

 

1984 – 1986              Executive Director, Groveland Recovery Center, Austin, TX

 

  • Executive Director for an outpatient substance abuse treatment program.  Responsibilities included hiring and supervision of program staff, community marketing, budget management and clinical oversight.


1982 – 1984              Principal, Lake Travis Middle - High School, Lake Travis, TX

                       

  • Provided leadership to new school with 290 students in grades 6–12.  Responsibilities included hiring and supervision of staff, budget planning and monitoring and community relations.


1972 - 1982               Texas Dept. of Education: Education Service Center, Region XIII, Austin, TX

                                   

1980 - 1982   Coordinator of Staff Development  

  • Designed and managed Training Cooperative for 59 fee-paying school districts serving 8,000 personnel


1976 - 1980   Director, Central Texas Teacher Center, San Marcos, TX and Federal Coordinator of Southern Regional Teacher Centers

  • Designed and directed the Central Texas Teacher’s Center, a regional training center serving 12,000 central Texas educators. Concurrently, served as the Federal Coordinator for 12 southern federally funded Teacher Centers and the Washington DC Federal Teacher Center Program


 1972 - 1976   Grants Writer and Manager 

  •  Wrote school improvement grants with a 90% funding success rate.
